Diana Margaret Garrett 72, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, went to be with her heavenly Father on this 17th day of April 2014 at her home surrounded by her family.
Diana was the only child of Jerry and Virginia (Hardin) Smith, born on the 15th of September 1941, her parents precede her in death.
Diana attended several schools in her grade school days as she traveled with her father who was in the Military Service. She attended St. Benedict's School in Canon City, Colorado, the Ursuline Academy in Paola, Kansas and graduated from Convent Sacred Heart in St. Joseph, Missouri in 1958. She then attended St. Joseph College and St. Mary's in Leavenworth, Ks. She retired as the office manager from McGlade Masonry in St. Joseph, MO after 25 years of employment, she had worked at several other business prior to McGlades. Diana loved to do all kinds of crafts, especially quilting. She was a member of the Piece Corps Quilt Guild. Diana was the Charter president and member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 6760. She was active in the community, and involved in many activities. She was a member of Central Christian Church.
Diana is survived by her husband, Larry, son Rusty Garrett and wife Tisha, three daughters, Beth Garrett, Mary "Ginger" Phillips and husband Steve, and Lorri Sadler and husband Tom Huppe, ten grandchildren: Nicki and Misty Stapleton, Allyssa and Adam Garrett, and David Marshall, Stacey Garrett, William Phillips, Kylee Lewallen and her finance Eddie Leaverton, Cassie Sadler, and Bill Jones, there are seven great granddaughters, and one great grandson.
The family wishes to thank the Hands of Hope Hospice and the staff at the Oncology Center and the Cancer Center with Heartland for their kind and gracious service to our mother.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am, on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Central Christian Church, with Rev. Jason Whyte officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Mount Auburn Cemetery .
