Don, born March 20, 1929 to Harry and Nelle (Sommer) Hegeman in Cosby. He graduated from Savannah High School, University of Missouri-Columbia with a degree in Agriculture. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He married Joan Kowitz on June 18, 1955. She survives him.
Donald owned Hegeman Farm. He was involved in the Dairy and Agricultural Industry, President of the Missouri Holstein Association; Board of Directors for Dairy Farmers of America, Missouri Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Missouri Dairy Association; Andrew County Extension Council; Andrew County Farm Service Agency; Board President of the Andrew County Mutual Insurance Company; president of the PWSD #2 of Andrew County, inducted into the Missouri Dairy Hall of Honors. He received his 50 year pin and served three times as Worshipful Master, Cosby Lodge No. 600 A.F. & A.M.; District Deputy Grand Master, 9th Masonic District. He also served on the Hope United Church of Christ church council.
Donald enjoyed farming and family. He cherished his wife and children and reveled in the lives and accomplishments of his grandchildren (the “Dirty Dozen”). He will always be remembered for his signature phrase “Keep Smiling”.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Virginia Nelle.
Additional survivors include: sister, Violet Dickson, Springfield, Illinois; daughters, Beth McCauley (Howard), St. Joseph, and Nancy Langemach (Paul), Savannah; sons, Dan (Fran) and Fritz (Jennifer), both of Cosby; grandchildren, Eric Langemach, Kansas City, Brent McCauley (Megan Jelley), Columbia, Kristin Langemach, Higginsville, Cole McCauley, St. Joseph, Kelly Yost (Derek), Kansas City, Hannah Catterton (Colton), Corning, Iowa, Mark Langemach, Savannah, Joseph Hegeman, Heidi Hegeman, Phillip Hegeman, Lillie Hegeman, and Joshua Hegeman, all of Cosby.Services: 10:00 A.M. Thursday, Hope United Church of Christ, Cosby, Missouri. Interment Savannah Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call after 5:00 P.M. Wednesday. The family suggests memorial gifts to Masonic Homes of Missouri or the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Agriculture and Hope United Church of Christ.
