Doris Lorraine Bower, 86, Hemple, Missouri passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Carriage Square Health Care Center, St. Joseph, Missouri.

She was born October 6, 1927, in Boone, Iowa to Cleo N. and Andrea M. (Chastel) Sill.

Doris married Glenn F. Bower on December 29, 1945. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Hemple, Missouri. He preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Dena Bower Bachman; parents; and brother, Cleo E. Sill.

Mrs. Bower was a homemaker and proprietress of Hemple General Store.

Doris was baptized at First Baptist Church in Boone on April 17, 1938. She was a member of the Hemple Community Church, Wreckettes and Needles of Moila Shrine Temple, Order of Eastern Star – Chapter #175, and the St. Joseph Chapter – DAR. Mrs. Bower served on the board of the Kerns – Freeman Cemetery Association and also as a former 4-H club leader and member of the Clinton County Zoning Board. She volunteered at the Missouri Methodist Hospital gift shop for numerous years.

Survivors: daughter, Denise Kretzschmar (Vic), Hemple; granddaughters, Erin Nash (Michael), Kansas City, Missouri, and Gwen Ford (Richard), Adrian, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Seth and Leah Ford; siblings, Jerry Sill, St Petersburg, Florida, Betty Rein, Eaglerock, California, Ken Sill, St. Joseph, Missouri and Bob Sill, Henderson, Nevada; and several nieces and nephews.

Services: 1:00 P.M. Friday, Wyatt Park Christian Church, St. Joseph. Interment Kerns – Freeman Cemetery, Hemple. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Mrs. Bower will be removed from Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory to arrive at the church one hour prior to the service.
