Flavel was born on August 28, 1919 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Thomas and Viola (Odell) Christensen. He retired from Swift & Co. in St. Joseph as a truck driver in 1957, he then owned & operated Flavel’s Restaurant in Wathena and later operated a Girls Home and finally a Boys Home in St. Joseph. He was a Police Judge in Elwood, Kansas & Justice of the Peace. Flavel moved to Arizona in 1980 then back to Troy in 2005.
He was a member of the Elwood United Community Church in Elwood and the Masonic Lodge #64 AF & AM for 60 years in Wathena. Flavel served in the U.S. Army as Corporal during WWII & a member of the Ancient Order of the Deep.
He married Ethelyn Gardner on July 6, 1941. She preceded him in death on March 31, 2010. Flavel was also preceded by his parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Survivors include; daughter, Lynda Franken (Andrew) of Troy; sons James Christensen of Clearwater, Florida; Phillip Christensen of Florence, Arizona; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Eleanor Mumford of Sedelia, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 30, 2014. at: Harman Rohde Funeral Home in Troy, Kansas. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service. Friends may call after 9 A.M. Thursday. Inurnment: Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas Memorials: Three Rivers Hospice or the Troy Ambulance Fund.
