Gene “Geno” George, 77, Savannah, Missouri, died Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family.

Gene “Geno” George, 77, Savannah, Missouri, died Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family.

Gene was born July 30, 1936, the son of Edward and Myrtle Bell George. He attended the Savannah School District.

Gene was a member of the First Baptist Church in Savannah. He was also member of the Pony Express Racing Association and the Andrew County Lake Club.

Gene worked for Burns Implement for 35 years and retired from the Andrew County Highway Department in 2001 after 18 years of service.

Gene married Connie Faye Newgent Steeby on June 1, 1957, she survives of the home. Together they raised their 4 children, who also survive him, Cogie (Larry) Lowry, Savannah, Toni (Ronnie) Myer, Lancaster, Kansas, Jeff (Angie) George and Shawn (Sandra) George, all of Savannah, Additional survivors include 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, his sister, Suzy (Don) Joslin, Hallcenter, Texas; and his Georgia Peach

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters; and eight brothers.

Gene loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed dirt track racing, camping, fishing and tinkering in his garage.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm, Thursday evening at First Baptist Church in Savannah. Mr. George has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith Savannah Chapel, where there will be a register book available to sign. Private family inurnment at a later date.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Andrew County Lake Club or the Center for Healing Generosity.
