James (Jim) Joseph Hoffman, 63, of Weston, MO lost his earthly life on June 23, 2014, in a motor vehicle collision near Albert City, IA.
SERVICES FOR JAMES HOFFMAN: VISITATION: 3:00 - 5:00 PM, SUNDAY, JUNE 29, 2014, AT HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC CHURCH IN WESTON, MO. FUNERAL MASS: 10:30 AM, MONDAY, JUNE 30, AT THE CHURCH. INTERMENT WILL FOLLOW IN THE GRACELAND CEMETERY IN WESTON.


James (Jim) Joseph Hoffman, 63, of Weston, MO lost his earthly life on June 23, 2014, in a motor vehicle collision near Albert City, IA.

Jim was born on April 13, 1951 in Emmetsburg, IA, to Joseph and Dorothy (Sievers) Hoffman of Ruthven, IA.

Jim graduated from South Clay High School in 1969, Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1973, where he met Julie, and later received a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Ministry from Creighton University.

He married Julie Block on November 28, 1974.

Jim recently retired from a lifelong career in college admissions. He impacted the course of many lives, especially at Benedictine College (Atchison, KS), Briar Cliff College, and Missouri Western State University.

Jim will be lovingly missed by his wife, Julie Hoffman, and his children, Gregory (Audrey) Hoffman, Kristine (Matt) Pessarra, Angela (Daniel Tucker) Hoffman, Michael (Shelby Roberson) Hoffman; grandchildren Josephine Hoffman, Meyer Hoffman, and two more on the way; his mother, Dorothy, two brothers and three sisters, Donald Hoffman, Marie Stover, Kathleen Weber, Joseph Hoffman, and Teresa Sundall, as well as numerous extended family whom he cared for deeply.

He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Brian Hoffman, and his father, Joseph Hoffman, both in 2011, and two sisters, Ann and Judy, who died in infancy.

Jim will be remembered for his dedication to family, who never had to doubt how much he loved them, his catholic faith, his curiosity and appreciation for all facets of life, his passion for discovering and sharing music, his sense of humor, his love of cherry pie and checking out ridiculous amounts of library books to nurture his children’s and grandchildren’s interests, and his service to all those around him.
