James Richard Arnold, 75, St. Joseph, MO, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Heartland Hospital.

He was born August 28, 1938 to Charles and Amanda (Thacker) Arnold in St. Joseph, MO.

James married Judith Phillips on January 4, 1958 in St. Joseph, MO.

He served in the U.S. Army for 22 years and was stationed all over the world. James played trumpet in the US Army band and was an agent in the criminal investigation division of the military police (CID). After retiring from the military he was a minister of the Gospel for 23 years. James had a heart for people and used his love of comedy and music to share Christ in his ministry. He was proud to be a veteran and a member of the Dick Munkers American Legion Post #287 Savannah, MO. James loved his family and was very proud of them all. He took his family all over Europe visiting castles and museums to share with them his passion of history.

James was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Raymond Hughes, and sister, Connie Weller.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years Judith Arnold of the home; three sons, Gregory (Julie) Arnold, Jeffrey Arnold, Chad (Kim) Arnold; daughter, Tami (Dennis) Pasley; brother, Larry (Elane) Arnold, all of St. Joseph, MO; sister Carol (Roger) Simmons, Des Moines, IA; ten grandchildren, Angela Arnold, Nathan (Christin) Arnold, Justin (Amanda) Arnold, Brooke (Kevin) Shavnore, Kelsey (Josh) Davis, Trevor Pasley, Brendan, Nick, Logan, and Wyatt Arnold; eight great grandchildren, Macy, Andi, Lucas, Molly, Kodi, Jude, Myla, and Lilliana.

Celebration of Life will be 11:00 AM Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home, Savannah, Missouri. Interment will be in Savannah Cemetery. Public visitation and family receiving hours will be from 10 to 11 AM Saturday at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Noyes Children’s Home and or The Edge CF Wheelchair Ministry.
