Jim moved to a better home in the sky on January 17th, 2014 as a result of Alzheimer’s
Jim is the son of Carl D. and Lila Livingston, born in San Saba, Texas on October 25, 1921. Jim grew up on a cattle and sheep ranch in West Texas. Lila taught him the Bible while Carl D. made sure the kids were
Jim graduated from San Angelo High School. He served in the US Marine Corp four and one half years, After the military service, he graduated from San Angelo Junior college and later finished up with a degree in radio-speech education from West Texas State College in Canyon, Texas.
In the final year of college, he met Avis Osborn and they were married on September 1, 1953, in St. Joseph.
Jim’s employment spans waiter, cashier, cook, night manager of a café, floral designer, oil field worker, auto mechanic, welder and refinery mechanic. He was also an aircraft maintenance instructor for USAF School at Amarillo, Texas AFB. In 1956 he relocated to St. Louis, MO to work for McDonnell Aircraft writing maintenance handbooks and performing maintainability engineering on a variety of military products. Jim retired from McDonnell in January, 1984.
Jim was a member of Northwest MO Republican Club and in December, 1979, Jim became a member of Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship International and migrated to the Assembly of God Church where he sang tenor and baritone in the choir. After forty-one years in St. Louis, he and Avis relocated to St. Joseph in 1997 to Caring First Assembly to continue his calling as a helper and servant. He is currently a member of Grace Evangelical Church.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Carl D. and Lila Livingston and sister, June Sportssman.
Survivors include a brother, Carl Glenn, Vancouver, WA, sister, Elizabeth Moore, Eugene, OR, and numerous cousins.
Services 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Interment Savannah Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 12 Noon Wed., where the family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Grace Evangelical Church or to
