Leo Francis Vertin, 90, of Wathena, Kansas passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the Wathena Nursing & Rehab.

Leo was born on August 29, 1923 on the family farm in rural Wathena, the son of Steve & Clara (Redmond) Vertin. He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School & Belmont School.

On November 18, 1950, he married Delores Ryser at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wathena. Together they raised eight children on the family farm on Columbus Road & then moved to town in 1987.

He retired from Dugdale Packing House, St. Joseph & then worked in the maintenance department, Wathena USD 406 for nearly 20 years. He was a member of  St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Wathena & a charter member of  Louis G. Vertin Knights of Columbus Council #9532, formed in 1987.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Rosemary Ryser & brothers, Bill, Vernon, Louis Vertin & son-in-law, Jerry Root.

Survivors are his wife, Delores of the home,
daughters, Pamela Boyd(Rick), Denise Coursen, Paula Bahr (Larry) all of
St. Joseph, Karla Root, Wathena
sons, Kevin Vertin (Lori), Wathena
Alan Vertin (Trudy), Platte City, Missouri
Richard Vertin (Linda), Troy
Brent Vertin (Brenda), Westminster, Colorado
15  grandchildren   5 step-grandchildren
16 great-grandchildren  3 step-great-grandchildren
numerous nieces & nephews

Mass: 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 9, 2014
         at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Wathena, Kansas
Rosary: 5:30 P.M. Tuesday evening at the church, with visitation to follow until 8. Friends may call after 2 P.M. Monday at Harman-Rohde Funeral Home in Wathena, Kansas
Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wathena, Kansas
Memorials: Lighting of the Cross,  Keenage Center or Kendallwood Hospice
