Marion Clyde Blessing, 83, St. Joseph, Missouri died Monday, April 14, 2014 at the Missouri Veterans Home, Cameron, Missouri.

Marion Clyde Blessing, 83, St. Joseph, Missouri died Monday, April 14, 2014 at the Missouri Veterans Home, Cameron, Missouri.

He was born November 19, 1930 in New Hampton, Missouri to Harlan and Birdie (Powelson) Blessing.

He married Joy Maxine Pumphrey, October 3, 1953.

Marion graduated from New Hampton High School Class of 1949.  He proudly served in the Army National Guard and later in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.  He worked for 31 years for Churchill Trucking and retired in 1986.  He was a member of the Teamsters Local 460, VFW Post 6760, New Hampton volunteer firefighter and Central Christian Church.

Marion enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting.  He also enjoyed camping and leaves behind many friends at the Weaver campground in Bennett Springs, Missouri.  He was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed feeding his “pet” squirrels.  Most of all, he loved spending time doing all of these things with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joy; grandson, Dustin Michael Shoots; sister, Marie Morgan; and brother, Harold “Red” Blessing.

Survivors: children, Robert Blessing (Krystal), Debra L. Wright, Anna M. Polsgrove (Greg) and Scott B. Blessing (Trina); six grandchildren; one great-grandchild and two on the way; siblings, Dortha Gardner, Blanch Ross, Olive Swope (Kenney), Shirley Faulk (Ray), Dwane Blessing (JoAnn); and Rosalie Kaze (Norman).

Services:  1:00 P.M. Thursday, Central Christian Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call after 5:00 P.M. Wednesday. 

Flowers are appreciated and for those wishing to make a contribution, the family requests they be made to Salvation Army, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or Alzheimer’s Association. 

Mr. Blessing will be removed for Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory to arrive at the church one hour prior to the service.
