On July 9th, 2014 Melissa went home to be with her Savior after an 11 year battle with cancer. She was 53 years old. She was surrounded with love from family and close friends, including her husband Roger, and two daughters.
She was born and raised in Texas, a fact she made loud and clear. She left Texas and her dear twin Melinda in 1984 to be with the love of her life in Missouri , where they raised two daughters Hannah and Calah.
She was an excellent seamstress, she made dozens of outfits for her girls, including her daughter Hannah ’s wedding dress. Singing was another love. She had a voice and demeanor that welcomed people. In the summer she could be found on the front porch drinking Irish tea and talking with whomever stopped by, guitar at the ready. She lived her life to the fullest, every single day was a great adventure. She lived everyday for Jesus, shining light and joy on everyone she knew. Even to the end of her life, she knew that she was in Jesus’ hands. Every new person she met learned a lesson in faith.
Melissa and her husband rode with the Tribe of Judah for 24 years, ministering to bikers. She also took part in several missions trips to her favorite place in the world; Northern Ireland. She was active in many facets of her church, using her many talents to praise her Savior.
The visitation will be held Sunday, July 13th at Grace Evangelical Church, 5103 SE State Hwy FF, Saint Joseph MO 64507 from 2-5pm. The Celebration of Life will be at the same location at 1:30 PM on Monday, July 14th. Donations can be made to the family to help with medical costs, or to a scholarship fund for children of gastrinoma cancer patients.
