Roy was born on May 19, 1923 in Cameron, Missouri to Carl Franklin and Hattie (Hurt) Cope.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carl; 2 sisters, Fern and Eileen; son, Buddy; daughter, Joyce; 2 granddaughters, Tammy and Autumn.

Roy was a graduate of Gallatin High School and a newspaper carrier for the Kansas City Star, before retiring.

Survivors: 3 sons, David Cope, Chillicothe, Allen (Darla) Cope, Cowgil and John Cope, Chillicothe; 4 daughters, Sue (Richard) Dodson, Bogard, Wanda (Clayton) Moorshead, Kidder, Debbie (Dicky) McKerlie, Dawn, Ruth Ann (Josh) Matthews, Chillicothe; sister, Helen Webber, Merrimac, WI; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Services: 3:00 PM, Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron. Visitation: 2-3:00 PM, prior to the service. Burial: Cameron Memory Gardens. Memorial Fund: Alzheimer’s Association.
