Sissey Smith, 96, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday April 14, 2014 at a Kansas City, MO health care facility.
Sissey was born October 11, 1917 to Henry and Ulma (Evans) McGlothlin in Cape Fair, Mo. She was the youngest of thirteen children. She grew up in Galena, Mo where she married Cecil Smith on February 2, 1935. In 1942 she moved to St. Joseph where Cecil found work and she called home since. Sissey enjoyed knitting and watching soap operas. She was always busy keeping house and being a good neighbor. Many of the neighborhood children considered her a second mother.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband Cecil in 1996; her twelve siblings; one son Kenneth and his wife Joan Smith.
Survivors include four children, Charles (Joyce) Smith, of Kansas City, KS, Billy (Sherald) Smith, of Parkville, Mo and Joe D. (Carol) Smith of Kirkwood, MO; daughter Jeanie (Bruce) Phipps of St. Joseph; fifteen grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
Services will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Clark-Sampson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Graveside Services and Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Galena Community Cemetery in Galena, MO.
