Virgil Eugene “Gene” Hill, 86, of St. Joseph, Missouri went to be with his Lord & Saviour on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at La Verna Village in Savannah, Missouri.  He has spent the past 2 years sharing Christ and Christ’s love with the staff and residents of La Verna Village where he has lived.

Gene was born on November 28, 1927 in Fowler, Kansas to Holmes William “Bud” and Hazel (Adams) Hill.  He was a WWII Navy veteran.  Gene was the branch manager at Skelgas & Getty Oil Co. in Wathena, Kansas.
Following retirement he went to work for the Missouri Department of Weights and Measures.

Gene was a member of the Green Valley Baptist Church in St. Joseph, Missouri and American Legion Post #161 of Wathena, Kansas.

He married Rosalie Ratlief on June 1, 1949.  She preceded him in death on January 16, 2012.  Gene was also preceded in death by his parents, son, Ronald Douglas Hill, daughter, Linda Sue Carter and a sister, Letha May Gumpenberger.

Survivors include his children;  Kimberly Kaye (Brett) Kennedy of Savannah, Missouri
                                         Dennis Eugene (Susan) Hill of Fouke, Arkansas
                                         son-in-law, Dwaine Carter of Tarkio, Missouri
                                         12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren
                                         brother, Larry Hill of the state of Texas

FUNERAL:  Thursday, March 27, 2014 - 11:00 A.M.
at:  Green Valley Baptist Church in St. Joseph, Missouri
burial:  Bellemont Cemetery in Wathena, Kansas where there will be Full Military Honors under the auspices of the 139th Airlift.
Visitation: family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services at the church.
