Eva T. Hanway, 91, lifelong resident of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Eva was born in St. Joseph on November 12, 1922, to Pete and Theresa (Halter) Hanway.
She worked for Swift & Co. for 28 years and then Quaker Oats for 15 years, retiring in January, 1988.
She was a 40-year volunteer at Heartland Hospital. Eva was a member of St. James Catholic Church, where she had been active in Daughters of Isabella, Ladies of Charity and the Altar Society. She was also a member of Quaker Oats Retirees Club; YWCA; and Catholic Charities.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Rosemary Schleicher, Betty McPhee and Annamarie Saunders; and brothers, Paul and Francis Hanway.
Survivors include three sisters, Wilhelmina (Cleo) Hoffelmeyer, Imogene (John) Richey, Josephine (Bill) Jackson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2013 at St. James Catholic Church. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 p.m. Thursday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where a Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Thursday and a parish rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. Thursday. The family will receive friends following the Parish Rosary until 8:00 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions in memory of Eva to St. James Catholic Church and to Hands of Hope Hospice.
