Fred L. Mueller, 74, of St. Joseph, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Saxton Riverside Care Center.
Fred was born on July 18, 1939 to Walter L. and Freida (Utlaut) Mueller in Waverly, Missouri. His family farmed nearby. He graduated from Alma High School. Fred then moved to Kansas City and became an airline machinist for 43 years with TWA and American Airlines. He served as President of the Employees’ Club for many years. He was also a member of IAMAW Local Lodge 1650 and TWU 730.
Fred was a collector of TWA and John Deere memorabilia. He was an active parent in the Winnetonka High School Marching Band as the parade float driver for many years. He also organized and hosted numerous parades and parties for TWA and AA. He made many smile with “Fred’s Way” of getting things done for the Employees’ Club.
He was married to Shirley Malicoat from 1967 to 1995. He then married Donna J. Proffer on April 4, 2004 in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Additional surviving family includes daughter, Kathy (Lance) Nelson, Lenexa, KS; sons, Jeff L. (Amy) Mueller, of St. Joseph; Steve S. Mueller, Kansas City, MO; and Robert (Jackie) Stagner, St. Joseph; daughter, Kimberly Caldwell, Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Haley, Hannah, Kaitlyn, Ashley, Maxwell, Grayson, and eight step-grandchildren, sisters, Carolyn Crawford and Mary Ellen Winter; nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents.
Services 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 Noon Tuesday at the chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday Evening.
