Joyce Burns, 82 of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, October 21, 2013 at Saxton Riverside Country Villa.
Joyce was born in Blackpool, Lancashire, England on May 7, 1931. Her parents were Arthur and Edith Gibson. Her father was a factory worker and her mother a homemaker. She immigrated to the United States in 1952 at the age of 21 and became a naturalized citizen.
Joyce was married to Lawrence Joseph Burns on September 29, 1957 in St. Joseph, Missouri where they made their home. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in St. Joseph and a member of St. Anne’s Altar Society and volunteered at The House of Bread and the Open Door Food Kitchen.
Joyce loved to travel and visited Colorado, Canada, Chicago, The Ozarks and return trips “home” to England. She enjoyed the outdoors, relaxing on “The Deck”, drives to Big Lake, watching reruns of the Andy Griffith Show, and listening to Nat “King” Cole and Frank Sinatra Records.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence, two sons, Brian Geoffrey and David Andrew, and a grandson David Lee.
Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Friday, October 25, 2013 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 11:00 AM Thursday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where the family will receive friends until 8:30 PM Evening.
A Prayer Vigil will take place at 7:00 PM Thursday at our chapel.
The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Francis Xavier House of Bread.
