Leland William “Lee” Sunderman Jr., 62, of St. Joseph, MO passed peacefully into Heaven on Sunday, January 19th, 2014 surrounded by his family at home where he wanted to be. Lee met the love of his life, Bonnie (Roup) in 1970. Bonnie and Lee were married on December 11th, 1970. They shared 43 wonderful years together.
Lee worked for over 30 years at Affiliated Foods in Elwood, KS as the Industrial Maintenance Supervisor. He also taught day and evening classes at Hilliard Technical Institute for many years. His most recent employer was R/S Electric Support Services, where he was the Safety Coordinator. He greatly enjoyed working for R/S and cherished the support he received during his illness.
His hobbies included fishing, boating, camping, watching black and white western movies, and drinking coffee on the deck with his wife. Lee enjoyed planning each year’s summer vacation with his family and most of all, holding hands with his wife.
Leland loved his family. They were the most important thing to him, and you could always catch him talking about each of his grandchildren’s activities and their accomplishments.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland W. Sunderman Sr. and Thelma (Dever) Sunderman.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of the home, daughter Shauna Connell (Bradley) of Gower, MO, son, Wesley Sunderman (Rebecca), of Wichita, KS. Grandchildren: Jordyn and Logyn Connell and Dylan and Brooklyn Sunderman, a brother, Scott Sunderman Sr. Sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sherry and Allan Link and several nieces and nephews.
Services: 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will receive friends 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call after 2:00 P.M. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
