Lonnie Jewell Cassity, 77, of St. Joseph passed away Friday, October 18, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Lonnie was born on January 30, 1936 in DeKalb, Missouri to the late Jewell and Nina (Linville) Cassity. He attended Lafayette High School.
Mr. Cassity worked at Seitz Food for 37 years and retired in 2000.Lonnie was a veteran of the Vietnam War and attended Faucett Christian Church. He loved all outdoor activities, mainly boating, fishing and hunting.
He married Fayetta Mizell on October 9, 1964, and recently celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary. She survives of the home.
Additional surviving family includes children, Kelley Steele, of St. Joseph; Michael Cox and Melody (John) Owens, both of Raymore, Missouri; brother, Patrick (Susan) Cassity, of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Sawyer Marlay and Terri Lynn, sister-in-law, Dorie (Johnny) Sights, brother-in-law, Vincent (Gail) Mizell and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express appreciation to the Living Community Staff, Bridge Rehabilitation and Heartland Hospital ICU, and 2 East Staff.
Services 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.
Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held after 12:00 Noon Monday at our chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday evening.
The family suggests memorial donations may be made to Faucett Christian Church.
