Mary “Rhonda” (Summers) Gardner, 57, lifelong resident of St. Joseph, Missouri, was taken into the arms of the Lord Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at a Kansas City , Kansas, hospital after a very long and very courageous battle.

Mary “Rhonda” (Summers) Gardner, 57, lifelong resident of St. Joseph, Missouri, was taken into the arms of the Lord Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at a Kansas City , Kansas, hospital after a very long and very courageous battle.

Rhonda was born on April 5, 1956, in St. Joseph, MO, to Edward and Mary Arlene (Kerns) Summers. She was a graduate of Central High School and Missouri Western State University. She then earned her Master’s degree in Psychology from Northwest Missouri State University.

Rhonda worked as a therapist in private practice for over twenty years until joining Family Guidance Center.
Rhonda was a member of Heaven Hope Church. She enjoyed family and lived life to its fullest.

Rhonda was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shiela; and grandparents, Mary & Ed Summers and Nell and Joe Kerns.
Rhonda is survived by her daughter, Heather Gardner, of the home; son, Dustin (Katharine) Gardner, Oak Harbor, WA; granddaughter, AshLynn Evans; siblings, John Summers, San Jose, CA, Mike (Debbie) Summers, Jonell Adams, David (Debra) Summers, and Cindy Summers, all of St. Joseph; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph, Missouri.

Visitation will begin after 9:00 a.m. Friday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph, where the family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening.
