Mary Virginia “Jena” Mahoney, 95, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Living Community of St. Joseph.
Jena was born on June 15, 1918 in St. Joseph to John J. and Anna P. (Morin) Waldron.
Jena was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Ladies of Charity, Knight of Columbus # 571 Ladies Auxiliary, St. Ann’s Altar Society and “Golden Girls 36”. She enjoyed playing bridge, puzzles and watching Royals, Chiefs, Mizzou and Notre Dame Sports. She worked for Pepsi Cola and was a secretary for Mount Olivet Cemetery.
She married Freeman D. Mahoney on May 11, 1946. He preceded her in death on August 26, 1987. She was also preceded by her parents, son, John J. Mahoney, two brothers, Eugene and John J. Waldron, Jr., four sisters, Margaret Jackson, Helen Caulfield, Marie Wenderoth and Rosanna Serocki.
Survivors include her seven children, Dan (Carol) Mahoney, Mike (Patty) Mahoney, Jim (Teresa) Mahoney, Noreen (Joe) Houts, Tom (Crystal) Mahoney, Joe (Debbie) Mahoney, and Mary Pat (Brian) Hewitt. Thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Jean Waldron, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM Thursday, October 10, 2013 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 Noon Wednesday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.
Daughters of Isabella Rosary 4:00 PM and Parish Rosary 6:30 PM Wednesday at our chapel.
The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8:00 PM Wednesday evening.
In memory of Jena, her family suggests memorial contributions to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Hands of Hope Hospice or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
