Veda Mae (Barr) Criss 82, Savannah, Missouri, passed away Thursday September 5, 2013 at Shady Lawn Living Center surrounded by her family.
Veda was born February 21, 1931 to Boyd and Naomi (Ware) Barr in Graham, Missouri. She graduated Valedictorian from Fillmore High School in 1949. She attended St. Joseph’s “Sisters” Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse in 1952.
In 1954, Veda married Bob Criss, who preceded her in death in 2001, and to this union were born three children, Kirby (Rita) Criss, St. Joseph, Mo., Kathy (Mike) Walter, Savannah, Mo. and Neil Criss, Stewartsville, Mo.
Additional survivors include two brothers, Bill Barr, Graham, Missouri, Bob (Janice) Barr, Austin, Texas; daughter-in-law, Carol Criss, Savannah, Missouri; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several cousins; nieces; nephews; and devoted friends.
Veda worked for doctors Kelly, Baker and Long and then she went to work for the Sisters of St. Francis at LaVerna Heights. In 1974, she became the director of nursing at LaVerna Village Nursing Home, retiring in 1991.
Veda was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Savannah, where she was a member of the Caryl Chimes in addition to serving as the Recorder for the Cradle Roll for many years.
Funeral Services 10 am, Monday at First Christian Church, Savannah Missouri. Public Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Sunday at the Heaton-Bowman-Smith Savannah Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm. Interment Savannah Cemetery, Savannah, MO.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to First Christian Church, Savannah, Missouri or AseraCare Hospice, Savannah, Missouri.
