Wallace Juhl 77, of Wathena, Kansas passed from this life peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Monday, October 21, 2013.

Wally was born on in Wathena, Kansas to Herman & Margaret (Schmille) Juhl.

He attended Lehman School and graduated from Wathena High School in 1954. He attended Highland Community College. He served his country in the US Marines and the US Army. He graduated with top honors from Engineer School at Fort Belvoir, VA after completing the engineer equipment repair course. After his training he serviced as a heavy equipment mechanic in Alaska. In 1961 he went to work in maintenance for Anchor Serum Co. in St. Joseph, MO which later was purchased by Phillips Roxane Co. and then Boehringer Ingleheim Vetmedica, retiring Dec. 31, 1994 after 34 years. Wally served as a deputy Marshall for the City of Wathena and at the same time was a reserve deputy for Doniphan County Sheriffs Dept. 1973-1975. He was known as the cop that drove his gray Chevy pickup with a cherry on top. Everyone today still has stories of Wally and his Gray Chevy truck. Wally was also a firefighter for Wathena’s Volunteer Fire Dept. for over 40 years. He loved working fires and being a part of his community. He was a member of the Zion United Evangelical Church, American Legion Post 161 and served on the firing squad. Wally married his true love Nellie Arlene King on January 27, 1968. Dad loved hunting, fishing, coyote drives, working at the farm and watching football. He loved being and working outdoors. He worked hard all his life to provide for his family. Dad would have given the last penny in his pocket to help anyone. He was a huge part of his kid’s life and was a big part of taking care of his grandkids, who brought joy to his life every day. He was loved dearly by his wife Nellie, his children and grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew him.

Preceded in death by his parents sister Sarah Young and Grandson Lukas Wesley Wells.

Survived by his wife Nellie of their home in Wathena. Son Lance and Carrie Juhl of St. Joseph and daughters Tonya and Dan Keller of Troy, Ks,; Mitzi and Eric Zeller of Wood Heights, Mo. and Brynn and Chad Young of Wathena, Ks. Grandchildren Kyle and Amy Juhl, Fort Benning, Ga, Eric Juhl, St. Joseph, Kace Keller, Troy, Ks, Roslyn, Zachary, Morgan and Amelia Zeller of Wood Heights, Mo, Leevi Wells and Cy Young, Wathena, Ks, Great Grandson Adrik Juhl and Baby Juhl due in December. of Fort Benning, GA. Brothers in Law Louis Young, St. Louis, Mo, Charles and Eunice King, Wathena, Ks, Wayne and Christine King, Cosby, Mo. Sisters in Law Jean and Francis Cook and Evelyn and Dallas Pohl, Wathena, Ks. Louise Huffman, Eudora, Ks. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and cousins.

Memorial Services: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Harman-Rohde Funeral Home in Wathena, Kansas Visitation: 6-8 Friday evening at the funeral home Inurnment: Zion United Evangelical Cemetery In lieu of flowers Wally would have appreciated donations to Wathena EMS or Troy Ambulance.
