William “Bill” Robert McCoy, 68, of St. Joseph, passed peacefully away Friday, November 22, 2013 surrounded by loved ones.
Bill was born on March 18, 1945 at a naval hospital in Pensacola, Florida to Leonard Edward McCoy and Florence Fitzgerald McCoy. The family moved to St. Joseph, Missouri.
Mass of Memorialization 11:00 AM Monday, November 25, 2013 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Inurnment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM prior to the service at the Church.

Bill attended Sherwood, Bliss Jr. High School and Central High School where he distinguished himself in football and swimming. In 1963, Bill joined the U.S. Navy and made the All Navy Swim Team. While in the Navy, he served on the USS Princeton, an assault carrier. Bill was discharged in 1967 and that fall he entered William Jewell College. In 1970, Bill married St. Joseph native, Janet Meyer. He worked for St. Joseph Surgical Supply Co. and became president in 1976.
Bill served as the vice president of St. Francis PTO, President of Bishop-LeBlond Booster Club, 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, President of the American Diabetes Association and a board member of the Arthritis Association. His hobbies include coaching his children’s sports teams, stained glass work, bicycling, swimming, everything Irish, and his passion for animals and the Royals and Chiefs.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his brother, Edward Fitzgerald McCoy and his wife Sharon Connolly McCoy of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters, Elizabeth (Betsy) McCoy Beasley and her husband, Conger Beasley, Jr. of Kansas City and St. Joseph respectively; and Mary Lee McCoy and her husband, Michael Simonds of Windham, Vermont. His children include Carol Elizabeth McCoy, Austin, Texas; Marti McCoy Burri and her husband, Peter Burri, St. Joseph; Michael James McCoy and his wife Kristin McCoy, Chicago, Illinois; grandsons, Jacob Burri, Finnegan McCoy and granddaughters, Madelynn, Samantha, and Anneliese McCoy. A loving father and grandfather, Bill is missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to either St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church or to Albrecht-Kemper Museum.
