(St. Joseph, MO) -Missouri hunters that didn't bag a buck during the main firearms portion of deer season have a bonus opportunity in 2011. Muzzleloading begins Saturday, Dec. 17th and runs through Tuesday, Dec. 27th. The old-fashioned shooting method provides hunters an 11-day span to use their deer permit to shoot an antlered deer, with the exception that they haven't already harvested a buck.

  • A muzzleloading or cap-and-ball firearm .40 caliber or larger and capable of firing only a single projectile at one discharge; in-lines and scopes are allowed.
  • Multiple-barreled muzzleloading or cap-and-ball firearms and/or muzzleloading or cap-and-ball handguns, including revolvers, .40 caliber or larger are allowed and may be carried in addition to a muzzleloading or cap-and-ball rifle.

Hunters are strongly encouraged to test their muzzleloader in the shooting range prior to hunting. Accuracy issues can make shooting frustrating. Problems stem from a dirty barrel to a loose scope.
