Jason Vargas tossed his fifth quality start in five games for Kansas City giving up just three runs, two earned, and striking out two in six innings. His record remains at 2-0 after getting a no-decision.
When Vargas left the game, Cleveland and Kansas City were tied 3-3, but the Royals bullpen couldn't keep the Indians quiet.
Jason Kipnis doubled home the go-ahead run for the Tribe off Kelvin Herrera in the seventh. Lonnie Chisenhall drove in another against Wade Davis in the eighth to give the Indians a two-run lead.
Kansas City's catcher gave his team a jump start with one down in the second. Perez' solo home run was 407 feet to dead center off Justin Masterson. Moustakas followed with a line drive homer that cleared the right field wall.
Moustakas also drove in a run in the sixth. His batting average is still well below .200, but the third baseman leads the Royals with four home runs and 11 RBI.
Kansas City will play for a series split Thursday. The Indians and Royals meet at 11:05am with Bruce Chen squaring off with Corey Kluber.
