(ST. JOSEPH) Hundreds came together at the Looney Complex on Missouri Western's campus as the first annual "Krikor Partamian Ping Pong Showdown" was held on Saturday night.

The event, which raised funds for MWSU international students, featured St. Joseph-based urologist Dr. Krikor Partamian, who won the national ping pong championship in his native country, Syria, in 1960.

60 entrants competed in a ping pong tournament on Saturday for the right to face Partamian in the final match. He was defeated in the championship round by Brian Hopkins.

Around $3000 was raised, according to MWSU President Robert Vartabedian, from the $25 entry fee along with a silent auction and donations.

After the final round, Partmian ended the night with a win over KQ2 sports reporter Justin Sampson.
