(MAYSVILLE, Mo.) Mark Cole said it hadn't sunk in that he will now lead the same team he played for back in the mid-90s.
That's exactly the case as Cole will take over as the next head coach of Maysville Football, effective Friday. He replaces Ed Frye, who Cole served as an assistant under during the 2012 season.
Prior to his return to Maysville, he spent four seasons as the head coach of Savannah, compiling 36 wins and a state semifinal berth before resigning among issues between his coaching and teaching roles.
The 1996 Maysville alum played linebacker/guard as a Wolverine and brings 15 years of coaching experiences to his new role, 11 of those as a head coach.
"It's definitely surreal," he said. "It probably won't hit me until I have the chance to blow the whistle and lead that first camp. You spend years as a kid watching Wolverine football and participating in it. Now I have a chance to shape it and mold it for years to come."
