(ARCHIE, Mo.) West Platte boys basketball suffered its only loss in the Class 2 State Championship in March.
Fast forward just over two months and 22 wins later, and some of those student-athlets have led Blue Jays baseball to the doorstep of another state championship berth.
Logan Moose's go-ahead RBI in the 7th inning sent West Platte to the Class 2 Semifinals with a 2-1 win at Archie on Thursday. It's just the second trip to semifinals in program history and the first since 2003.
Priding themselves on maintaining their poise, the Blue Jays (22-1) were faced with another do-or-die situation just a day after advancing past Sacred Heart in a 1-0 affair.
Jared Meyer drove in Matt Heili in the first inning, but neither team would score again until the sixth. The Whirlwinds used a trio of pitchers to prevent another run in that span, including Boston Dickerson working out of a bases-loaded jam in the second.
Collin Lewis tied it 1-1 with an RBI single in the third, but surrendered the winning run shortly after. Moose knocked a bloop single to right field, plating Heili for the second time. He then worked a scoreless seventh to preserve a solid outing for starter McKauley Stephenson.
West Plate will face Canton in the Class 2 semifinals Tuesday in O'Fallon.
