(O'FALLON, Mo.) West Platte earned its first state championship berth with a 5-1 win over Canton on Wednesday.

The Blue Jays (22-1) set the school's single-season win record with the victory.

Senior pitcher Logan Moose was instrumental in the win going 2-3 at the plate with a pair of runs scored, and a complete game on the mound giving up one run on seven hits and four walks while striking out ten.

But Moose doesn't believe he was at his best.

"That was my worst outing of the year. I didn't have anything good, I was just battling."

Moose was efficient thanks to some solid defensive plays behind him.

In the top of the second, Canton put runners on the corners with none out. The Tigers' first baseman Zach Dye flew out to center fielder Dylan Guthrie for what looked like a sacrifice fly, but Guthrie threw a strike to catcher Jared Meyer to cut down the runner at home.

Dylan's brother Cody Guthrie also made an impressive double play of his own.

Cody dove to snag a line drive hit by Justin Fellinger, then tagged out Logan Brown as he attempted to tag up at second base.

Plays like those from his defense allowed Moose to face just four more than the minimum in the Class 2 Semifinal.

The Blue Jays got rolling offensively in the first. Dylan Guthrie hit a sac fly to right, scoring Matt Heili in the bottom half of the frame. Later, Moose scored on a wild pitch to put West Platte ahead 2-0.

In the third, Meyer drilled a double deep to center field scoring Moose and Heili.

West Platte wrapped up the scoring with a bases loaded walk by Ben Heili to tack on a fifth run.

The Jays go up against Hartville Thursday at 1:00pm at T.R. Hughes Ballpark for the Class 2 Championship.
