(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) In nine seasons at Kearney High School, Gary Belcher won 137 games, a Class 4 State Championship and four district titles.

Now he's taking on his next challenge in his hometown.

Belcher's expected to be named head boys basketball coach at Benton High School Wednesday afternoon. The Kansas City Star first reported the news Tuesday evening.

The position came open last month when George Ross resigned after three seasons. The Cardinals posted an 11-64 record under Ross.

Belcher won district titles at Kearney from 2007-2010, and made a state championship appearance in 2009. The Bulldogs lost to St. Francis Borgia 59-41 in the title game, but got revenge the next season knocking off Knights 47-43 for the Class 4 Championship.

In the 2013-14 season, Kearney went 15-12 and lost to Fort Osage in the Class 5, District 14 title.

Benton will make the announcement official Wednesday with a press conference at 3pm.
