(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) For the first time since 2010, the Benton girls basketball team has made its way back to sectionals.

The Cardinals (19-8) meet up with Lincoln Prep (20-7) Wednesday evening at Staley High School in Kansas City.

Benton's just two wins away from a trip to the state final four after a six-point victory over Lafayette in the Class 4, District 16 title game Saturday.

Since running their longest losing streak of the season to four games after dropping 44-30 decision at Cameron on February third, the Cardinals haven't lost a contest since.

The team's current win streak is up to eight.

"It's probably not one of the most talented teams I've ever had, but this group has stuck together like glue," head coach Brett Goodwin said. "We know that we can't overlook anybody. We have to come in and play our best no matter who we're playing. I don't think there's any question that this team knows what's at stake."

A win Wednesday sends Benton to the Class 4 Quarterfinals Saturday at the Independence Events Center against Clinton or Notre Dame de Sion.
