(ST. JOSEPH) Smithville wrestling continues to put its stamp on the Midland Empire Conference.

The Warriors took home the conference tournament title for the third straight year with 384.5 points. Five Smithville wrestlers also took first in their weight class, including Dalton Tipton, who's currently ranked first in the state at 152 pounds.

The senior's optimistic that this is just the start to the Warriors' dominance.

"Hopefully we can keep doing it," he said. "This is our first time winning three consecutive, and our third time ever winning conference. Now we've done it three years in a row which is pretty cool for us."

Cameron is ranked fourth in the state, two slots below Smithville, and followed the Warriors in the MEC tournament with 330 points. Benton rounded out the top three, getting big performances from three wrestlers taking first in their weight classes. Those include Tyler McNutt, who also won the Outstanding Wrestler Award.

"For the past three years I've had gold, and I just wanted to help my team," he said. "We had a goal to try to be a top three conference team. I feel like we're working hard in the practice room. We've got to keep battling. We're fighting a few injuries, but we just have to push through and keep fighting."

Savannah also put together a solid showing with four matches left before districts. Bryson O'Callahan is ranked secnd in the state at 220 pounds and made quick work of taking first in his weight class.
"It gives me a confidence boost knowing that I won the conference that I can go out there and get first at districts and walk into the semifinals at state hopefully," he said. "I'm going to have a tough run, but hopefully I can make it."

Chillicothe, Lafayette, and Maryville rounded out the final three in Saturday's tournament.
