(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) National signing day is coming up February 5th, but one local high school football player made his allegiance official Wednesday afternoon.

Benton running back Dontae White will join Missouri Western next season as a preferred walk-on.

"Ever since I was little, I've been watching them play," White said. "I continued to watch them and that's where I really wanted to be."

During his career at Benton, White rushed for more than 4,300 yards on 500 carries, and only fumbled three times.

He's hoping to extend the legacy of big time running backs that the Griffs have seen in recent years.

"It's an honor. A lot of good running backs have been through there like Michael Hill, and Raphael Spencer's there now. For them to be interested in me, it's a big deal. It shows that they're interested in me, and I'm capable of being out there."
