"We're very hungry," senior lineman Brady Gunn said. "We've got a lot of experience coming back. We've got a lot of guys that'll be three, four year starters even so I think it's going to be a good year for us."
The Dragons bring back a group of seniors that have never tasted a winning record, but in Jeff White's second season they're ready to shake things up.
"Coach White says it all the time: good programs don't rebuild, they reload. And we have to get the gun loaded," senior wide receiver Jared Hamilton said.
White believes that commitment was Cameron's downfall in the past, but things are different this season.
"I think early on in their high school careers they had commitment issues," White said. "They weren't real hard workers in the weight room. They seem to have turned those things around and get on the right track as far as that goes."
"There were 50 or 60 guys here for camp (this summer), last year I think we had 20 or 30 maybe," Hamilton said.
There strength is up front as they bring back a bulk of experience along the offensive and defensive line with four returners.
"Our offensive line and our defensive line are kind of our bread and butter this year," Gunn said. "In the past few seasons, we've had some guys that are only weighing 160-170 pounds playing on the line. This year we don't have a guy under 200."
The size up front will be key for senior Joe Pratt and the rest of the backfield to get anything going in Cameron's option offense.
"I definitely think that if we keep working hard and stay focused, we can be one of the best offensive lines in the MEC, and I truly do believe that."
With the experience and changes coming to Cameron in year two under White, the Dragons are confident they can pull off their first winning season since 2009.
"The MEC's a very tough conference, but I feel very confident this year that we can be the top," Pratt said.
Cameron opens the season at home against Pembroke Hill.
