(ST. JOSEPH) Central High School senior Tanner Butterfield signed his letter of intent to compete in track and field at William Jewell this morning.

At William Jewell, he will participate in shot put, discus, javelin, and and attempt the hammer throw.

Butterfield drew interest from Missouri, Southern Illinois-Carbondale, and SIU-Edwardsville among others.

With William Jewell an hour-long drive from St. Joseph, Butterfield felt more comfortable at a place closer to home

"I'm very family oriented and the thought of having them behind me. And the support at every track meet just makes me, I guess a little tickled inside that I'll have people pushing me. Not just my family, but my coaches and teammates."

Besides track and field, Butterfield played junior varsity football, soccer, and basketball for the Indians.
