Now, his little brother is trying to follow the same path as the elder Steele.
The Johnson County Community College Cavaliers, along with third baseman Hayden Steele, are making a trip to the Junior College World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado after closing out the Region VI championship.
This trip marks the second appearance in the NJCAA Division I World Series in school history.
"It's kind of ironic that it's the second in program history and the second in family history, but it's kind of fun and I'm just ready to get to Colorado," Hayden said. "It'd be kind of like deja vu I guess. I just switch places with Keaton. He'll probably be at home watching me play instead of me watching him a couple years ago."
In a deciding Region VI championship game Tuesday night, Steele went 2-3 with a run scored in a 2-0 victory over Kansas City Kansas Community College.
"We're happy with getting there, but the jobs not done. We need to get a few more Ws and try to get a ring."
Johnson County's first game in the tournament is May 24th against Midland (TX).
