Quarterback Nate Atkins and running back Quayde Bauman, who led the North Andrew to the 2013 state championship, registered touchdowns in their final game under Schoonover. Teammate Austin Dalbey was named Defensive Most Valuable Player, while Stanberry's Nathan Luke earned offensive honors.
It marked a temporary end to Collins' time on the sideline. The Stanberry school board did not renew his contract for next season after leading the program for 20 years and back-to-back state championship appearances. He still has interest in coaching but doesn't expect to find a job for the upcoming year.
Saturday's exhibition held a different feeling for the 8-Man veteran.
"It's going to be an adjustment come August when the first game rolls around," he said. "There's going to be a little itch there, but we'll work through that, we'll make something happen, and hopefully in the near future we'll get the chance to step back into it."
Luke, Ryan Jensen, and Matt Stoll all represented Stanberry in Collins' last outing.
