According to the Northwest Missourian, the male professor made the following comment on Facebook during a conversation with another professor: "By October, I'll be wanting to get up to the top of the bell tower with a high-powered rifle, with a good scope and probably a gatling gun as well." The remarks were removed the next day.
Provost Douglas Dunham says he believes the comment was posted on campus and on Wednesday. The University Police Department took the professor into custody on Thursday.
"We took it seriously as soon as we learned about it. We took appropriate action,” said Dunham.
Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Price said Thursday morning, his office was reviewing the case. No charges have been filed at this time.
Students, faculty and staff all received emails on Thursday alerting them about the alleged threats and stressed that no one on campus had been harmed.
University officials have yet to release any more details about the professor.
