Maysville Advances to Class 1 State Championship Game

(SPRINGFIELD, Mo.) Katie Applegarth didn't have much room for error with nine innings to work through, but stiff defense and some late heroics by Jade Hahn had her back.

The senior pitcher struck out 12 batters while Hahn slapped a walk off single to live Maysville 4-3 over New Franklin in the Class 1 state semifinals on Saturday. It earns the Lady Wolverines their first-ever berth in the state championship game.

Hahn's decisive RBI broke a 3-3 lock that had been in place since the third inning.

Maysville ripped off two runs in the first inning when Hahn beat out a throw to the plate following a passed ball by Kalani Pihana. She was pulled after five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits.

Aislinn Himmelberg hung all of New Franklin's runs with a single bases-clearing swing in the third frame.

Bailey Frasher drove in Rachel Boucher for the tying tally in the bottom of the third.

Applegarth showed a bend-but-don't-break effort outside of the third inning, allowing eight hits over he nine innings without walking any batters.

Madison Maupin worked the final three innings, giving up the winning tally to Hahn.

Maysville faces Westeran at 4 p.m. Saturday at Killian Stadium for the Class 1 State Championship.
