(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Lafayette senior Tyler Burgess will stay true to his alma mater's colors when he heads to college next fall.

The Fighting Irish center fielder committed to play baseball at Northwest Missouri State Friday afternoon.

Burgess had it narrowed down to Northwest and Missouri Western before making his decision.

Through 21 games this season, he's batting a team-high .420 with a home run, 16 RBI, seven doubles and 32 runs scored in the lead-off spot.

Lafayette will hold a ceremony for Burgess next week as he heads to Northwest as a preferred walk-on.

The Fighting Irish (15-6) earned a first round bye in Class 4, District 16, and play their first game in the tournament on Monday.
