The teams have split the last four meetings, with none of them being decided by more than six points. In those games dating back to November 2010, the team that eventually won the game was trailing by at least 11 points in the first half.
It's a product of games played between two schools that don't like each other.
"It's deep history between these two," Missouri Western running back Raphael Spencer said. "We don't like the green and they don't like the black and gold, so it's going to be a really intense game."
The freshmen and transfers that come in with no knowledge of the rivalry get educated on it quickly.
"New guys like Reuben (Thomas) and Bobby Burton obviously know that we're rivals, but they don't truly know the meaning of a MO West-Northwest game," Northwest running back Billy Creason said. "They're going to find out this week how big the stage is going to be."
Kickoff from Spratt Stadium between Northwest and Missouri Western is 2:37pm with the game being broadcast on the MIAA Network.
