(OVERLAND PARK, Kan.) Jackie Bishop carved up Northeastern State's hitters for a career-high 17 strikeouts as Missouri Western advances to the MIAA Championship with a 3-1 win.

The Griffons will play either Emporia State or Northeastern State Saturday at noon for the title.

Bishop was flirting with her fourth no-hitter of the season in the complete game victory. The Riverhawks were hitless into the sixth inning. Lauren Flanary hit a double with two out in the frame to break up the no-no. Madison Reed followed with a RBI single to give Northeastern a 1-0 lead.

The Griffon offense picked up their pitcher in the bottom of the sixth. Morgan Rathmann cranked a solo home run -- her third of the season -- to tie the game. Following a Bre Fleschner single, Sydney Washington reached on a hit, and both runners scored on a three-base error by Ryan Martin.

Bishop pitched around two hits in the top of the seventh to hang on for the win. She gave up one earned run on four hits, a walk and struck out 17 in her 23rd outing of seven innings or more this season.

First baseman Tiffany Gillaspy had Western's lone hit through the first five innings. The Griffons tallied five more in the sixth.

Missouri Western was sitting at sixth in the NCAA Central Region Rankings released Wednesday afternoon. A trip to the conference tournament championship, plus two early losses in the tournament for Central Oklahoma -- a team ranked one spot ahead of the Griffons -- should boost Western up to at least fifth when regional tournament seeding is announced.

The NCAA will hold a selection show for regional tournament seeding at 8:45am Monday.
