(TOPEKA, Kan.) A furious rally in the final two minutes nearly undid No. 22 Missouri Western's lead at Washburn on Saturday, but the Griffons held on to beat the 15th-ranked Ichabods 34-31 to avoid their third straight loss.

The win sets up another huge season-ending matchup with No. 2 Northwest next Saturday in at Spratt Stadium as the Griffons (8-2, 7-2) try to fight their way back into a postseason berth in Super Region 3.

MWSU held a 17-point lead twice in the game's final five minutes, but Washburn quarterback Joel Piper tossed three of his four touchdowns in the final two minutes to pull the Ichabods (8-2, 7-2) within three.

Washburn got three onside kick attempts in the fourth quarter, but failed to recover any of them. Michael Jordan recovered the last one to seal the Griffons' victory.

Running back Raphael Spencer turned in a banner day, rushing for a game-high 193 yards and two scores. His second strike came with 1:51 left in the game to put MWSU up 34-17. The Griffons outgained Washburn 319-73 yards on the ground.

Travis Partridge completed 12 of 20 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown connection with Derek Libby to open the scoring late in the first quarter.
