Griffons Outlast Northeastern State to Complete 4-Game Sweep

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Missouri Western made the most of its home opening series against Northeastern State winning a pair of games Saturday to complete the sweep. The Griffs took game one 6-5 in 11 innings, and won 6-2 in the second contest.

St. Joseph native Will Carter had the late-inning heroics with an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth to knot the first game 5-5. Two innings later, Carter hit a solo home run to give Missouri Western its third MIAA win of the season.

Jake Jones was the winning pitcher tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Mason Queen took a no-decision after allowing three earned runs and striking out eight in seven innings of work.

The Griffons (6-3, 4-0 MIAA) took control of game two in the first inning by plating three runs. Western led 5-0 before the Riverhawks finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning.

David Chew and Trevor LaHonta had two hits apiece, with Chew driving in two runs.

Dylan Roades picked up his first win giving up just one unearned run in five innings.

Missouri Western has the next week off before a conference road trip to face Northwest on Friday, February 28th.
