The Griffons (3-0, 2-0) -- ahead by five in the fourth quarter -- scored one final time on a touchdown pass to Stephon Weaver to put the game out of reach.
The black and gold had a foothold on the contest in the first half jumping out to a 21-0 lead.
Marcus Thompson set the offense up with great field position after he picked off Bronson Marsh's pass at the Missouri Western 47 yard line. Ten plays later Dalton Krysa rushed into the end zone from 12 yards out to jump ahead.
Krysa finished the game with 20 yards from scrimmage to go along with the touchdown. Raphael Spencer led the Griffons in the ground game rushing for 171 yards on 27 carries.
The Griffs made it a two possession game on Weaver's first touchdown reception from Travis Partridge, and opened up a 21-0 lead when the quarterback scampered in from three yards out.
Western went into the break ahead 24-6, but the Lopers began chipping away at the lead.
Marsh had touchdown runs of 19 and 52 yards to bring UNK back within five points.
Partridge hit Weaver in the end zone for the second time to add some cushion for Western.
Weaver finished with six receptions for 50 yards and two touchdowns. He'll take on a larger role in the coming weeks as the Griffs lost a senior captain in the contest.
Wide receiver Tyron Crockom's game was cut short in the first half with an arm injury. Crockom suffered a broken wrist, and will likely be out 6-8 weeks.
Missouri Western returns to Spratt Stadium next Saturday to play another winless football team, Fort Hays State.
