Missouri Western Sweeps Southwest Baptist

SW Baptist Men 84, Missouri Western 89

(ST. JOSEPH) Charlie Marquardt continues to take advantage of his increased minutes. The freshman scored a career high 23 points as Missouri Western held off Southwest Baptist for an 89-84 win on Saturday.

The win snaps a three-game skid for the Griffons, who improve to 8-9 and 3-6 in the MIAA. It's the sixth straight loss for the Bearcats (8-9, 1-7).

MWSU trailed 39-37 at halftime, but nearly doubled their shooting percentage in the second half as they erupted for 52 points. Ryan Devers finished with 19 points while Cortez Colbert had 16. Marquardt and Devers also combined for 28 free throw attempts alone.

The Griffons also conquered the rebounding battle at a 44-30 clip.

SW Baptist Women 63, Missouri Western 73

(ST. JOSEPH) Three Griffons finished in double figures as Missouri Western beat Southwest Baptist 73-63 on Saturday for their much-needed second conference win.

Quenisha Lockett and Sharniece Lewis each had 12 points while Jallisa Lewis added 11 for the Griffons (6-9, 2-7).

MWSU scored the first 13 points of the game before SBU (7-8, 2-6) pulled within a possession midway through the first half. They maintained a 38-32 lead at halftime fueled by 23 points off turnovers.

The Griffons got 34 points from the bench as ten players got in the scoring column.

Dilonna Johnson posted a game-high 19 points.
