(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) After seven seasons with the Missouri Western women's golf program, Cathy Habermehl is retiring.

"I feel that it is time for me to focus on other priorities in my life. After seven years, I feel I'm leaving the team in a good place, with great kids that can achieve another level with a new coach. I have been proud to be their coach and will always treasure their friendships," Habermehl said in a pres release.

In her last five years with the program, the team has won ten events and placed second in 17. Habermehl was also the 2011 MIAA Women's Golf Coach of the Year.

She also brought in golfer Natalie Bird from Carl Junction. In her senior season under Habermehl, Bird became the first Griffon to qualify for the NCAA Regional Tournament.

The search for a new coach at Western begins immediately.
