(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) After a breakout senior season at Missouri Western, and a hot start to the Summer with the St. Joseph Mustangs, Kyle Simpson is stepping up to the next level.

Simpson will leave St. Joe to join the Alexandria Aces of United League Baseball -- an independent league based in Texas.

An ABCA first team all-region and all-american performer in 2013, Simpson hit .377 with four homers and 60 RBI in his final season with the Griffons.

He will be the third player from Missouri Western's MIAA Championship team to enter professional baseball. Former teammates Michael Schulze (St. Louis Cardinals organization) and Grant Fink (Cleveland Indians organization) were both drafted in the MLB First Year Player Draft.

Currently Alexandria is 11-14 this season, and 4.5 games back of first in the ULB standings.
