(SPRINGFIELD, Mo.) Former Missouri Western head men's basketball coach Tom Smith was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday.

Smith, now the head coach of MWSU tennis, spent 36 seasons as a head coach, compiling 618 career wins. He spent 25 years in St. Joseph, finishing with a record 448-279 leading Griffons. He is the all-time wins leader for both MWSU and the MIAA and is also a member of both halls of fame.

Smith is one of 15 individuals that make up the 2014 Hall of Fame class, along with former Royal Mike Macfarlane, former Chief Ed Podolak, and former Cardinal Willie McGee.

"I think I was more nervous than I was at some games over the years... some pretty big games," he said. "It's a tremendous honor, especially for someone who didn't necessarily grow up in the state of Missouri."
